Dear Insurer, I don’t like doing business with vultures…

vulture-insurance

Insurance companies have fingers in many pies, and the same pack of vultures who are making a killing off the plight of injured workers will stop at nothing to win your business.  They have cover for all occasions such as house, house contents, CTP Green slips, comprehensive vehicle insurance, income protection etc.

We have listed the BIG 7 insurers in NSW below and would suggest that if approached by any of the Big 7 to take out other forms of insurance, you may consider sending them a polite letter declining their offers.  You also may consider cancelling any existing policies (ancillary products) you might already have with a scheme agent and get a better price with a non-scheme agent.

Re: (insert type of insurance and due date)

Dear (insert name, use christian name if possible)

Thank you for your recent letter dated (insert date) containing your invitation to renew my (insert type of insurance) with your company.

I am writing to inform you that I have determined to decline your invitation to renew.

The reason I have determined to decline is that I realised, upon receipt of your letter, that the company you represent is also one of the authorised scheme agents for WorkCover in NSW. Working, as you obviously are, in an unrelated division you may not be aware of this fact.

Until such time as (insert company name), the six other scheme agents, WorkCover NSW, SICorp and the various self and specialised insurers in the scheme begin to effectively and aggressively lobby the O’Farrell govt to restore dignity, equity, procedural fairness and the accordance of natural justice to genuinely injured workers in NSW I will be boycotting any of your ancillary products.

Until such time as all parties effect the reinstatement of some reason and balance back into the scheme I see no reason to refrain from counselling my work colleagues, my contacts in community organisations, my trade union associates and anyone who cares to listen to boycott any ancillary products (i.e. house, house contents, CTP Green slips, comprehensive vehicle insurance, income protection etc) offered by the scheme agents and their allies in NSW.

Mr O’Farrell and his Government have been disingenuous, at very least, in formulating and articulating a series of myths in relation to this matter. Myths they are now using as justification to disenfranchise, and discriminate against, ordinary, decent, hard working men and women in NSW.

Yours in Community
